Kim Fields Reveals Reason for Joining 'The Real Housewives of Atlanta' Season 8

Kim Fields definitely took her time in deciding to join a reality TV show, but she finally said yes to "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" (RHOA) and revealed her reason for doing so.

Producers of several reality TV shows have courted Kim Fields many times in the past few years, but she only agreed to join the industry recently. The "Facts of Life" star finally agreed to be part of the "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" because she felt now was the right time for that opportunity, according to E! Online.

Because Fields knew what is was like growing up under the spotlight, she had to decide carefully on whether she would put her children through a similar situation or not. Her concern for her family was the main reason for holding back, the Daily Mail reports.

"We've been asked to do reality TV for years, and it just wasn't the right timing, right opportunity," Fields told E! "It's such an adventure. It's something different."

Fields says she sees the RHOA project as a challenging task that would take her to a different level in show business. But before leaping into the role of a Real Housewife, the new reality star said she researched about the show to prepare herself for any heated situation that she may have to deal with in RHOA.

Since Fields' husband and two children will appear with her on RHOA, she voiced out her concern over the show's effect on her family. She admitted that she is very protective of her family and marriage. At the same time, she trusts that the viewers nowadays are already smart enough to distinguish between real and fake fights.

Aside from Fields, another new cast member will also join RHOA season 8. Amiyah Scott, the first transgender woman on the show, will also appear on the reality show. Scott seems to be the replacement of Nene Leakes, who confirmed in June that she will no longer be part of the show's eighth installment, the report relays.

Kim Fields made her debut on "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 8 p.m. on Bravo.
