'Kud Wafter' Spin-Off Anime Movie International Crowdfunding News: What Happens in Kud and Riki's Alternate Summer?
An international crowdfunding campaign has been launched for the "Kud Wafter" anime movie adaptation, which has been planned for a 2019 release.
Following its successful Japanese campaign, which ended in September, "Kud Wafter" is gearing up to hit the international scene with a crowdfunding project aimed at raising funds for the addition of English subtitles as well as for the worldwide distribution of the upcoming movie.
The initial target goal is ¥3,000,000 or US$26,000, with a stretch goal amounting to ¥15,000,000 or US$132,000. Should the stretch goal be reached, the 40–50 minutes target time for the movie will be stretched to 60 minutes instead.
"Kud Wafter" is a spin-off of the 2007 Japanese visual novel, "Little Busters!" and its expanded, adult version titled, "Little Busters! Ecstasy," both developed by Key. It features the fan-favorite character, Kudryavka Noumi, or Kud for short, and expands the said character's story after the events of "Ecstasy." It is written by Chika Shirokiri, with art direction done by Na-Ga and Itaru Hinoue, both of whom also worked on the previous titles.
The success of the Japanese crowdfunding campaign has made it possible to fund both a 20-minute long OVA and a theatrical movie adaptation of the said game.
The movie will reportedly feature a "What If?" scenario and is an alternate version of "Little Busters!" wherein the field trip ended without incident, and thus Kud and Riki Naoe are now a couple. Conflict begins as a result of an issue with the boys' dorm renovation, which will leave Riki practically homeless over the summer vacation.
And since Kud is still looking for a roommate, the two of them will end up spending the summer under one roof, facing new missions that will impact their relationship as well as their individual lives.
Backing this project will also entitle fans to a variety of rewards, some of which will even get the backer's name listed in the end-roll credits.
The movie is being produced by J.C. Staff and is scheduled for a potential Q4 2019 release.
On the other hand, the international crowdfunding project only has less than 50 days left to reach its initial target, which has been fulfilled by 55 percent as of this writing. Fans can check the project's official page for more details.
