NASCAR 2015 News: Kurt Busch Suspended Amid Domestic Violence Allegations

Kurt Bush has been indefinitely suspended by NASCAR. That news came down late yesterday after a Court in Delaware found that it was very likely that Busch had assaulted his then girlfriend in his bus at the Dover race last fall. NASCAR had no choice but to take a tough stand, especially in the wake of the Ray Rice incident.

"Given the serious nature of the findings and conclusions made by the Commissioner of the Family Court of the State of Delaware, NASCAR has indefinitely suspended driver Kurt Busch, effective immediately. He will not be allowed to race nor participate in any NASCAR activities until further notice," NASCAR stated.

While it is important to note that Busch has not been convicted of crime as of yet, it is of equal importance to note that this is not the first time Kurt has found himself suspended from racing. In 2013 NASCAR suspended the driver for one race after verbally abusing a member of the press, and in 2005 Kurt was released from Roush Racing with two races left in the season after an incident where he was pulled over for reckless driving. At the time Busch was the defending Cup Champion.

Busch was also fired by Penske Racing and just a few seasons ago was virtually unemployable. He took a ride with Phoenix Racing and then Furniture Row Racing to help rebuild his career and was then hired as the Fourth driver at Stewart-Haas Racing. How long he will be suspended and if he ever returns to the team are questions that cannot be answered right now.

SHR has named Regan Smith as his replacement driver. Smith filled in for Tony Stewart last season when Smoke was recovering for the tragic events of last fall. For 2014 he is set to drive for JR Motorsports in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. In 172 career Sprint Cup series starts Smith has one victory and 11 top ten finishes. He was also the 2008 Sprint Cup series Rookie of the Year.
