Lenovo Vibe X2 to Be Released in India and Philippines

Lenovo's latest smartphone, the Vibe X2, is coming to India and the Philippines this November as invitations have already been sent out by the company for its product launch events. The smartphone was first announced during the IFA 2014 event in Berlin earlier this year and is dubbed as the first "layered smartphone" in the world.

The title is pretty straightforward, the Vibe X2 is composed of three different-colored layers of plastic with an additional fourth layer in the form of a JBL clip-on speakers as well as a battery case which allegedly extends the phone's usage time by as much as 75-percent.

The handset is priced at around $399, which converts to Rs. 24,000 in India and P18,999 in the Philippines. The phone will be available in red, white, gold, and dark gray in the Philippine market.

The Vibe X2 features a 5.0-inch touchscreen with a display resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It is powered by a MediaTek MT6595m True8Core chipset with an octa-core 2.0GHz processor as well as a PowerVR G600 GPU.

It will be available in one storage option only, the 32GB variant, with 2GB of RAM. There is no microSD card support though and this could limit consumer interest. It also has a 13-megapixel rear facing camera and a 5-megapixel front facing camera. It runs the Android 4.4.x Kitkat software and it is still unknown whether it can be upgraded to Android Lollipop.

The clip-on accessories will be sold separately from the handset though and will be released sometime after the smartphone's release.
