'Lucha Underground' Renewed for Season 3, Johnny Mundo and Taya Join Show
Professional wrestling franchise "Lucha Underground" is not yet done with its second season but it's already been reported that the show is going further than that. According to IGN, executive producer Mark Burnett and MGM have announced that the show from El Rey Network has already been renewed for a third season.
It's a big relief for fans, considering there were some issues about the show no longer making a return because of some financial situations. Fansided noted that many doubted that the show would make it to a second season, even though the first season was critically acclaimed. But all of that has been resolved now and "Lucha Underground" is going to have one more round after season 2, which has already premiered last Jan. 27.
The source also mentioned that Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet had revealed that the taping of the final season 2 episode has already wrapped up. It was during a meeting with the cast at the backstage that the producers revealed the good news. There aren't a lot details about the third season yet but it is known that the series will kick off production right away in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. It is also expected to start airing on El Ray Network by early 2017.
As noted in Wrestlezone, El Ray Network Chairman and Founder Robert Rodriguez released a statement saying, "Lucha Underground has caught fire by developing a loyal and passionate fan base. I am proud that its home is El Rey Network, and we're excited to announce a season three return for even more no-holds-barred action."
Season 3 definitely sounds exciting but while waiting, fans will have to watch out for the season 2 surprises, beginning with the report that a new tandem is going to join the show. NY Daily News detailed that platinum blonde Canadian stunner Taya and fan favorite Johnny Mundo will now be featured in the luchador-centric wrestling show.
"Lucha Underground" season 2 airs every Wednesday.
