'Madam Secretary' Season 2 Episode 12 Spoilers: American Ambassador Thwarts Elizabeth's Myanmar Plans

As fans of CBS' political drama series "Madam Secretary" know, Elizabeth McCord (Téa Leoni) has found herself in many complicated situations, but has always managed to make it through with poise and determination. In this Sunday's episode, the Secretary of State travels to Myanmar, where she will once again be tested - this time, by a fellow American whose plans for the country contradict hers.

Episode 12 finds Elizabeth working on bringing Myanmar's power grid up to par with more developed countries and helping the nation maintain trade relations with its partners, including the U.S. The Secretary of State will get on a plane to oversee the task but will be met with resistance in the form of the American ambassador when she arrives. Meanwhile, according to Spoilers Guide, Nadine Tolliver (Bebe Neuwirth) will try to reconnect with her son.

"Elizabeth goes to Myanmar to sign a Pacific Rim trade agreement which will modernize their power grid and benefit several of its trading partners, but she is met with resistance by the country's American ambassador who has immersed himself into the local culture. Also, Nadine attempts to mend her relationship with her estranged son."

Ratings for "Madam Secretary" have been low enough in recent episodes to worry fans who are anxiously awaiting news of the series' renewal or cancellation. CBS is expected to make its final renewal decisions sometime in May.

But though the show's ratings may be cause for concern, CBS President Glenn Geller has given "Madam Secretary" fans hope, calling the series "the unsung hero of Sunday nights" at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour in Pasadena, CA on Tuesday, NJ.com reports.

"It's both smart and relevant," Geller said. "Their storylines mirror the headlines, and at its core it's about the importance of family."

"Madam Secretary" airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
