Manny Pacquiao Next Fight Rumors 2017: Terence Crawford, Amir Khan or Adrien Broner as Possible Opponent in November
Top Rank's Bob Arum recently declared that professional Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao will be fighting again in July as well as in November. However, though only a few months are remaining before the supposed bout in July, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion's opponents for both upcoming boxing matches have not been confirmed yet.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Arum declined to discuss who he's considering as a possible contender against Pacquiao in the match scheduled for July. However, he did say that he expects the bout to take place outside of the United States.
Though England's Amir Khan was a strong candidate to be Pacquiao's opponent, his religious commitments as a Muslim in July hinder him from competing around that time.
However, he, along with unbeaten two-belt junior-welterweight champion Terence Crawford and four-division champion Adrien Broner, are being considered to be Pacquiao's opponent in the scheduled November bout.
As for Pacquiao's coach, Freddie Roach, he told Boxing Scene that he wants the future Hall of Famer to fight against someone who is more well-known.
"The thing is, if Pacquiao fights again, it will be somebody in the top 10, and somebody really legit," Roach said. "Because I don't think we need to just continue boxing just for the sake of doing that against like lower-class fighters and so forth. If we're going to fight, we're going to fight and be competitive in the top 10 in the world."
Roach favors Khan as a suitable next opponent for Pacquiao. He also noted that the unbeaten World Boxing Association (WBA)/World Boxing Council (WBC) world welterweight champion Keith Thurman is also a good candidate.
"Either one of those guys, I would love the fight. Bring the contract and we'll sign it today," he said.
Pacquiao is a seven-division world champion who last fought in November 2016 against Jessie Vargas and won by unanimous decision. He is also busy because of his commitments as one of the elected senators in his home country, the Philippines.
