Mayweather vs Pacquiao Rematch News: Bob Arum Wants Part Two Of May 2nd Mega Fight

Top Rank head honcho Bob Arum apparently likes the idea of a rematch between retired undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. and eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather and Pacquiao finally got the chance to face each other last May, after a five-year build-up brought on by failed negotiations and performance-enhancing drug use allegations that eventually led to lawsuits being filed. The fight remains to be the most lucrative one in boxing history, raking in a total revenue of $500 million.

And for the 84-year-old boxing promoter, that is enough reason to make a second fight happen.

"I'd love to see a Mayweather-Pacquiao second fight, of course I would. The first fight was by far the most lucrative in the history of boxing," Arum said in a report by Boxingscene.

"But Mayweather has to un-retire, Manny has to decide whether or not he's elected to the senate and he'll do the rematch, so we'll have to see," he added.

In September of the past year, Mayweather announced his retirement for the second time in his professional career, after handily defeating former world champion Andre Berto. "Money May" walked away from the sport of boxing with a record of 49-0, with 26 victories by knockout.

Pacquiao, on the other hand, has repeatedly declared that he would be fighting his 66th and final fight on April 9, in a rubber match against WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley. After which, he intends to become a full-time public servant in his home country of the Philippines, where he will be running for Senator at the May 2016 national elections.

With their future plans seemingly intact, both Mayweather and Pacquiao are not foreseen to be meeting inside the ring any time soon.

But according to Arum, retirement announcements do not really stick with professional fighters.

"I've been in this boxing business for 50 years and I know that fighters retire and other than, say, Rocky Marciano, they come back," Arum said.
