Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar Celebrate 30th Anniversary, Reveal Their 'Frugal' Wedding and Honeymoon
Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on July 21, and Michelle took the time to blog about their wedding and honeymoon, which were kept at low costs thanks to planning and their need to keep things low-key.
"My wedding to Jim Bob almost 30 years ago was sweet and simple," Michelle wrote. "We actually got married in the hallway of the building – we had set up folding chairs to use as pews! I wanted to do as much as I could myself as a way to save money and keep the expenses reasonable. We didn't buy flowers and barely even decorated the hall. I even made my own bouquet using fake flowers so I could keep them to decorate my home with later."
Michelle went on to note that she made her own wedding cake but had a friend decorate it and that she wore Jim Bob's mother's wedding dress for the ceremony. It was something special that she wanted to do and took great pride in. It was the perfect day for the couple, and on their 25th anniversary, they repeated as much of it as possible: the same pastor to perform the ceremony, which took place in the hallway of their church; the same reception with cake, nuts, and punch.
The couple then headed to two different state parks in Arkansas for their honeymoon. They stayed in cabins, but things did not exactly work out as planned. The first cabin in Lake Fort had no water – the river had completely dried up. Jim Bob and Michelle chose to spend their first night together at a small hotel in Fort Smith instead, where they would actually have running water. They then spent a few nights at a cabin in Mount Nebo before heading to their first home.
"It was just so precious to be in our own house together for the first time," Michelle wrote. "Jim Bob was already being a husband and working on the car. I remember thinking, 'Oh how romantic. He's at our house and he's working on our car.' It's funny the little things that you just hold dear to your heart forever."
This year, Jim Bob told ABC he was planning to take Michelle out to a "special lunch" before spending their anniversary night at home with their family. "I'm looking forward to 30 more happy years together," he added.
