Miss World News: Over 110 Contestants Arrived in Sanya, China to Compete for the Miss World Crown
This year will mark the 65th edition of the oldest international beauty pageant, Miss World, and the competition heats up with over 110 contestants hoping to bring home the Miss World crown. This year's edition of Miss World is hosted by Sanya, China.
The contestants from all over the world started arriving in Sanya last Nov. 21, and since then, the beauties have been participating in different activities. Each of the contestants shot their profile video and photos on Nov. 22 for the Miss World website, and even had a welcome parade on Nov. 23 to officially kick off the competition. A welcome dinner and fireworks display also took placce after the parade.
Miss World is divided into several events, including Sports & Fitness challenge, Talent competition, Top Model challenge, Multimedia competition, and most importantly, the Beauty with a Purpose competition. The top scorers in each event gain points, and the highest pointers will enter the semifinals, which will be announced on the finals night.
Last Nov. 27, participating nations competed for the Talent competition, and some of the contestants we able to showcase unique talents during the auditions. Miss Cameroon, Jessica Ngoua Nseme, showed the judges the traditional Cameroonian hair braiding, while Miss Myanmar, Khin Yadanar Thein Myint performed a traditional Burmese martial arts.
The audition for the other events has not officially been announced yet, but according to the Miss World 2015 Wikipedia page, the Top Model and World Designer competition will happen on Dec. 12, the Talent show finals on Dec. 15, and the Miss World coronation night on Dec. 19.
According to Missossology, a popular beauty pageant website, the current top 10 favorites among the fans are Miss Poland, Miss Lebanon, Miss Vietnam, Miss Mongolia, Miss China PR, Miss Brazil, Miss Philippines, Miss Kenya, Miss Chile, and Miss India.
The current Miss World title holder is Rolene Strauss from South Africa, who was crowned in London last year.
