'Mythbusters' Will Bid Farewell Next Year After 14 Successful Seasons
For science geeks, and even those who are not, "Mythbusters" has been part of TV viewing since it started in 2003. The Discovery Channel's hit show became a pioneer among other science-related shows, and is considered one of the longest-running shows on cable TV. Fans of the series are saddened to hear that the "Mythbusters" shop will finally close after 13 seasons, when the news broke out.
For those who are unfamiliar with the show, "Mythbusters" tackles "myths," "Internet rumors," and "urban legends," and reveals if those are actually "confirmed," "busted," or "plausible." Some of the most popular myths that were confirmed are proving elephants are indeed afraid of mice, and people really get cold feet when nervous.
Entertainment Weekly was able to chat with the show's hosts, Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman, for an interview. The two hosts admitted that they knew about the show's end, however, they were at least happy to be advised about it, so they can prepare better episodes for "Mythbusters'" last season. "Our finale will go out with a bang, as everyone would expect," Savage said.
Hyneman added that he and Savage have been executive producers for a while now, and they have been part of making the decision to end the show. "We felt like we've had really strong material for the whole run. It's been 14 years and its just time," he explained. Hyneman also added that, "We want to go out on a strong point."
According to the duo, the final episodes of the 14th season will give "emphasis on looking back." The Verge said that it will be a look back on the show's best experiments throughout their run. Fans can't wait to see what Savage and Hyneman prepared for its final season.
The Discovery Channel will have a "Mythbusters" marathon starting Dec. 23, and the final season will premiere on Jan. 9, 2016.
