NBA Finals News: Steph Curry Leads Warriors to 1-0 Lead Despite James' 44 Points
After waiting for almost a week, NBA fans were finally treated to an exciting and tight Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The game had to go into overtime in order for the winner to be decided. But in a game where everyone expected a close finish, the Cavs seemingly let their guard down in the extended five minutes, scoring just two points in the extra period.
As a result, Cleveland bowed to the Warriors, who scored 10 points in OT for a 108-100 win.
Steph Curry led Golden State with his 28 points, eight assists, four rebounds, and two steals to spoil LeBron James' return to the NBA Finals, his fifth straight.
The four-time MVP on the other hand, shot the lights out with his 44 points, eight rebounds and six assists, and carried the load for Cleveland, who were missing some crucial contributions from their bench.
Kyrie Irving held his own against the Warriors' guards, dropping 23 points and delivering the final defensive gem of the fourth quarter where he blocked an open layup by Curry, who could have iced the game in regulation.
Unfortunately, a lose ball scuffle in OT sent Irving to the locker room with a knee injury.
While Cleveland had problems with its bench contribution, Golden State had four other players scoring in double figures aside from Curry.
Game 2 will be on Saturday night, and LeBron would have to carry the load once more for the Cavs, especially that they fear losing Irving in the next couple of games.
