NBA News 2015: Reggie Jackson, Kawhi Leonard Named Players Of The Week; Jimmy Butler Remorseless On Comments Made About Coach
Detroit Pistons point guard Reggie Jackson and the San Antonio Spurs' forward Kawhi Leonard were named the NBA's Players of the Week for the games they played from December 14 until the 20th.
In a Dec. 21 report by NBA.com, the two players have led their respective teams to win streaks for the said week.
Leonard helped the Spurs rack up a 3-0 record. At the time of the NBA report, he was averaging 22.7 points per game on a 56.4 field goal shooting percentage. He also put up 6.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.0 steals during that time.
Leonard's noteworthy showing was against his team's victory against the Washington Wizards last December 16th. The Spurs won with a tally of 114-95.
Jackson, on the other hand, led his team to a 2-1 streak, and scored 30 or more points in two of the three games.
His most notable performance of the said time period came on December 18th, when the Pistons won over the Chicago Bulls with a score of 147-144. At the time of the NBA report, the 25-year old player was averaging 29.3 points, 7.7 assists, and 6.3 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Chicago Bulls shooting guard Jimmy Butler remains unremorseful about the criticisms he made against rookie coach Fred Hoiberg on national television, after his team lost to the New York Knicks on Saturday.
In a report by ESPN, Butler was outspoken about his coach's methods, saying Hoiberg should be motivating his players more.
"It's different when a player is telling another player and a coach is telling a player," Butler said in the ESPN report. "I know it's really not in him like that, but, at times, that's what we need."
Two days after, during the team's shootaround, ESPN once again caught up with Butler and asked about his previous remarks about his coach.
The 26-year old player says his stance remains the same. Butler did clarify that what he said after the game was done out of frustration.
"Do I regret it? No." Butler said, referring to his previous comments. "[I was] a little frustrated after a loss, yeah, but then again, I put a lot of it on myself now because I gotta lead better, can't allow stuff to happen."
