NBA News: Sports Illustrated Names Steph Curry '2015 Player Of The Year'; Bucks Coach Out Indefinitely Due To Hip Surgery

Sports Illustrated Magazine has named 2015 National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player awardee Stephen Curry as their Player of The Year.

The 27-year-old leader of defending champions Golden State Warriors was able to lead his team to a 24-game winning streak this season. According to Lee Jenkins for SI.com, Curry's feats within the last seven months alone makes him a solid candidate for such an accolade.

Jenkins also pointed how Curry was able to give the Warriors its first franchise title in 40 years. In the 2014-2015 Season, the team was able to put up a record 67 wins. Curry is currently averaging 31.8 points per game, 5.4 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 2.1 steals, and 0.1 blocks.

Jenkins adds that Curry was also the league leader in scoring at last week's end with 32.3 points. The Warriors last played in a rematch against the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday night, the team who dealt them their first loss of the season. Golden State, however, was able to get even and defeat Milwaukee with a score of 121-112.

Their next assignment will be against the Utah Jazz, a team they will be facing on Wednesday, at home.

Meanwhile, ten-time NBA All-Star and current Milwaukee Bucks head coach Jason Kidd will be undergoing hip surgery, which will put him on the sidelines for an indefinite period of time.

In a report by NBA.com, assistant coach Joe Prunty will be filling in for Kidd while the latter is in recovery. For his part, Kidd admits to holding off surgery for a long time, but was finally convinced to do so upon the advice of his doctors.

The 42-year old NBA great also adds that he is confident that Prunty would be able to do a good job in his absence.

"Joe has many years of coaching experience both in the NBA and in international competition," said Kidd. "He's well-respected in the league and I know our players and coaches will give their all during Joe's time as head coach."
