NBA Trade Rumors: JaKarr Sampson Signs Deal With Nuggets; Rockets Sign Sam Dekker From D-League
The Denver Nuggets got an additional player in their roster when they decided to sign 22-year-old JaKarr Sampson.
The small forward from St. John's University was an undrafted player from the 2014 NBA Draft. He then joined the Philadelphia 76ers during the Summer League of the same year but was assigned to the team's D-League affiliate, the Delaware 87ers.
The Sixers decided to waive Sampson in time for the February 18th deadline, but four days after, the Nuggets went on to sign him.
In a report by NBA.com, General Manager and Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly made the announcement on Monday.
For the current season alone, Sampson played in 48 games so far and is averaging 5.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, 0.6 assists, and 0.3 steals, through 14.7 minutes of playing time per game.
The same report adds that the Nuggets now have 14 players in their roster.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets decided to sign back forward Sam Dekker from the D-League. In a report by Jonathan Feigen for the Houston Chronicle, the 21-year-old professional basketball player was recalled from the NBA Developmental League on Monday but was once again sent back to practice with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers as part of his recovery from his back injury.
In November, Dekker underwent surgery for a back injury that he has reportedly been dealing with since his senior year at Wisconsin.
He was expected to be out for three months, making February the last month of his recovery. For his part, Dekker is slowly getting himself back in shape as he goes through it one step at a time.
"The plan right now is to get a few more games down there. We have a stretch of two or three home games this week," he said. "We're going to get the minutes load up higher, get me more in shape. "I'm completely fine with that," he continued. "I want to get my rhythm back, feel more like myself."
