'NCIS' Season 12 Spoilers: Episode 11 'Check' Recap

"NCIS" returns with a new episode which sees the team investigate a crime scene, while Gibbs has to deal with two of his ex-wives.

"Check" starts with some diner employees opening up for the day, and as soon as they enter they find bodies all over the place. The NCIS team head to the diner and surveys the scene with the five victims. Bishop thinks that they may have shot each other. Gibbs looks out the window and sees his ex-wife, Diane, who is joined by another woman—Gibbs' second ex-wife, Rebecca. The two women have become friends and Diane tells Gibbs that she brought Rebecca along because she and Gibbs need to talk.

Gibbs manages to evade them, but Rebecca follows him home and tells him she used to be an addict, and as part of her rehab program she has to apologize to people that she has hurt while she was still using. She apologized to Gibbs for cheating on him while she was still on drugs, and Gibbs forgave her.

The two talked until they fall asleep on the couch, then McGee shows up with Diane, who gets angry at them as she assumes that they might have gotten intimate the night before. Rebecca says "yuck" and Gibbs takes offense. Then he asks Diane why she was there, and she says that the IRS was hacked and that someone was looking for records of Navy personnel who were late paying their taxes. Before leaving with Diane, Rebecca hands Gibbs a wedding invitation.

Gibbs and McGee go to the tax office, and Gibbs spots a shell casing on the floor and some blood spatter. At NCIS headquarters, Abby says that the blood type matches the victims from the diner. She says that they must have been lured to the place, then arranged to look like they might have shot each other. The scenario reminds the team of the place where Jenny Shepard died. Then, another case comes in and Master Chief Ekim Beanes is discovered lying in the middle of the road with a stab wound to the chest, which mirrors how Mike Franks was killed.

Gibbs wonders why someone is recreating past murders of people who were close to him, and the team mentions that the murders coincide with Rebecca's arrival. Rebecca goes into interrogation, and her lawyer and fiancé, Gene, arrives. Rebecca says that she has nothing to do with the murders, and when Gibbs point out the large sum that was deposited in her account, she says that her uncle died and she inherited the money.

Abby finds a bug in Rebecca's phone, and they trace the bug to Ghenna Ulanov, who is linked to Sergei Misnev, an international criminal who survived being shot by Gibbs.

The team surrounds and enters an RV, and they see that the walls are covered with pictures of Rebecca. Gibbs gets a text from Diane to meet him at an address, and Gibbs shows up at the rooftop and sees Diane. She was getting a manicure and asks why he wanted to meet her. Gibbs gets an inkling of what's about to happen and pulls her to safety, but she gets shot in the forehead—just like Kate. Mishnev makes his escape in a car, and Gibbs shoots at it.

Mishnev leaves a one-word message for Gibbs on the computer, and it says, "Check." Bishop thinks that a checkmate is coming.

"NCIS" airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
