'NCIS' Season 12 Spoilers News: Episode Recap 'Cadence'
On Tuesday's all new episode of "NCIS," DiNozzo returns to the military academy he attended as a teenager after a murdered Marine and alumni of the school is found clutching the photo of a current student.
"Cadence" starts in a wooded area where a man is seen dumping the body of another man. The dead man is wearing a ring with a special insignia. The NCIS are called to investigate, and they find out that the victim is 19-year old Private John Wallis. His wallet, cash, and jewelry are intact, but his phone is missing. Ducky reads the Latin on Wallis' ring, and the words "truth, valor, duty" are familiar to Tony. It's the motto of Remington Military Academy, the school which Tony attended. Tony also spies a photo clutched in Wallis' hand, but the photo is covered in blood, making it hard to find out who's in it.
The team finds out that Wallis was an honor student and was set to deploy, but after getting a call on his cell phone 5 days prior, he emptied his bank account and went missing. The call appears to be from a dorm phone at the school.
Tony is reluctant to go back to Remington, but Gibbs tells him that he has enough time to prepare for his visit. Tony and Bishop hit the road, and Bishop shows him a picture of a young woman in a Remington uniform.
At the school, Coach Tanner greets Tony and tells Bishop that he always knew that Tony would make him proud. They show Tanner the picture, and he identifies the girl as Christine Sanders. Sanders is dead. Tanner tells them that she was on the dean's list, but her grades started to slide and ten days later, she was found dead. Meanwhile, McGee is able to trace the call on Wallis' phone and it came from Cadet Craig, the highest-ranking cadet at the academy.
Later, Bishop and DiNozzo get a call from an informant who claims to know what really happened. Upon meeting him, DiNozzo discovers that the informant is his former classmate Travis. Travis tells them about the Honor Corps, and DiNozzo thought that Tanner banned the Honor Corps during their time at the academy. Travis tells him that he was a victim of the Corps.
The team finds a report that Sanders filed during winter break that says that she was being stalked by someone she knew. They confront Cadet Craig, and it turns out that he did stalk Sanders after she rejected him. As a result, the Honor Corps punished Sanders for a month before she died. Wallis found out what happened and went back to the academy to stop the Honor Corps. He met up with his mentor, Cantor, and tells him of his plans. But rather than reveal the truth and ruin the school's legacy, Cantor killed Wallis and dumped his body in the woods. Gibbs tells Cantor that Wallis followed the motto and that Cantor betrayed it.
"NCIS" airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
