'NCIS' Season 12 Spoilers, Plot News: Showrunner Talks Upcoming Episodes
Last Tuesday on "NCIS," the show gave a glimpse into the life of openly gay members of the military. The episode titled "We Build, We Fight" was directed by cast member Rocky Carroll, and the hour focused on the murder of an openly gay and married Medal of Honor recipient.
As seen on the show, the NCIS team initially wondered if it was a hate crime.
"The story twists and turns, and of course we go down that road," said showrunner Gary Glasberg in an interview with TVLine. "It's a strong episode that touches on subject matter that I think is relevant, and Rocky did a terrific job. I personally love when we take on subject matter that has some sensitivity to it, because I feel like we do a good job."
The "NCIS" executive producer also talked about what viewers can expect from the upcoming episodes this month. In the episode titled "Cadence" which will air on February 10, guest star Tanner Stine will play a teenaged DiNozzo, who is seen in flashbacks attending military prep school. TVLIne reports that Steve Harris will play Tony's basketball coach and mentor.
"I think we captured the essence of who Tony may have been when he was younger—and any time that we can give continued insight into young DiNozzo, it only informs who he is today," said Glasberg.
Up next is "Cabin Fever", which will air on Feb. 17. It can be recalled that in a previous episode, Sergei Mishnev started recreating the deaths of people close to Gibbs and killed Gibbs' ex-wife, Diane. Glasberg said that Gibbs and Fornell will "spend some time in Gibbs' cabin in the woods and really hash through some of the grief and the issues they're both facing."
For "Blast from the Past" which airs on February 24, a covert identity created out of Gibbs' undercover cases from 20 years ago comes out when a murder victim is found living under the alias.
As for the season 12 finale, Glasberg said, "I think I'm going to try and rattle people a little bit!"
"NCIS" airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
