'NCIS' Season 12 Spoilers: Show to Crossover With Premiere of 'NCIS: New Orleans' Throughout Season
The cast of "NCIS" will be spending time in New Orleans, helping the new members of "NCIS: New Orleans" get started. Starting this fall, the two shows will feature crossover episodes featuring characters from both series, including of course, Mark Harmon as Agent Gibbs.
"I'm there to help," Harmon said at the annual summer TV critics' meeting on Thursday. "I've learned a few things in 12 years and I'd be glad to pass a few along or not."
Harmon is not only guest-starring on the series but is working behind-the-scenes as an executive producer. He and co-stars Pauley Perrette (Abby Sciuto) and Michael Weatherly (Anthony DiNozzo) will both make appearances on "New Orleans," which features Scott Bakula, Lucas Black, and CCH Pounder. Rob Kerkovich was recently announced as a regular on the new series; he will play a forensic scientist who works with Pounder's character.
"The worlds of the two shows exist in the same place," executive producer Jeffrey Lieber said. "There's a lot of cross pollination of the people, the places, the world, the 259 episodes that came before us … we're our own thing, but we exist very much in the same universe."
Harmon and Bakula have already worked together in the New Orleans setting, which seemingly provided some background for the upcoming series. "NCIS" will enter its twelfth season this fall on CBS, showing how popular the "JAG" spinoff truly is. Fans have embraced the "NCIS" team and the entire franchise, which includes "NCIS: Los Angeles," which stars Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J.
"We have to earn our place," Bakula told the critics. "It's not a given. We have big shoes to follow. The ball that's being handed off is a perfect spiral."
Fans of the original "NCIS" have been calling for their favorite actress, Pablo de Cote, to make another appearance on the show, but it was revealed this week that she will be starring in the miniseries "The Dovekeepers," also on CBS this fall.
