'New Mutants' Cast News, Updates: 'X-Men' Spin-off Reportedly Casts Maisie Williams, Alexandra Shipp, Anya Taylor-Joy
"New Mutants," the upcoming "X-Men" spin-off, will reportedly feature some familiar faces.
The film, which is currently in development, is part of the growing "X-Men" movie universe, which recently saw the addition of blockbuster hit "Deadpool" and will soon have "Gambit" joining its roster.
IGN spoke to Simon Kinberg, who co-produces the "X-Men" film franchise, at the recent "Star Wars Rebels" season finale screening. According to Kinberg, "The Fault in Our Stars" director Josh Boone is already working on the "New Mutants" script with his writing partner.

"They're doing a really nice job of it, and it's a really cool one, because in many ways, like 'Deadpool' was so different from the mainline 'X-Men' movies, 'New Mutants'… It's maybe not as different as 'Deadpool,' but it has its own unique, original voice to it," Kinberg said.
The "X-Men" producer also talked about which of the Marvel mutants will appear in the upcoming film, saying, "There's a long, long list of names, and I'll tell you some of the names on that list I don't even know."
"Traditionally, the New Mutants have some characters that cross over from the mainline 'X-Men' movies," he explained. "As we are going, I would say it's likely that you will see some familiar faces."
According to a recent report from HitFix, some of these "familiar faces" may have already been cast. In a recent article, the website says that the film has reportedly found three of its New Mutants.
According to HitFix, "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams is attached to play Wolfsbane, also known as Rahne Sinclair, a shape-shifting Scottish werewolf. Another character, Magik/Ilya Rasputin, will reportedly be played by "The Witch" actress Anya Taylor-Joy.
The website also says that James McAvoy's Professor X will have a significant role in "New Mutants" and that the young Storm, played by Alexandra Shipp in the upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse," will be one of the New Mutants.
Though there is no official release date for the film, it is expected to drop sometime in 2018.
Meanwhile, "X-Men: Apocalypse" hits theaters May 27.
