New York Comic Con 2017 Panels: Marvel Pulls Out 'The Punisher' Panel After Las Vegas Shooting
Marvel's "The Punisher" panel was pulled out from the 2017 New York Comic-Con following the events of the Las Vegas massacre, which claimed the lives of 59 people.
"We are stunned and saddened by this week's senseless act in Las Vegas," Netflix and Marvel said in a joint statement. "After careful consideration, Netflix and Marvel have decided it wouldn't be appropriate for Marvel's The Punisher to participate in New York Comic-Con."
They added, "Our thoughts continue to be with the victims and those affected by this tragedy."
"The Punisher" was supposed to appear on Saturday, Oct. 7 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. For the uninitiated, the show follows the story of a firearm-wielding vigilante first introduced by Marvel 42 years ago.
Sneak peeks into the upcoming show should have been teased at the event, but in light of the recent tragedy, which is currently dubbed as the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, the companies decided to retract the guesting as the nation continues to grieve for the loss of the 59 victims.
On the other hand, returning favorites such as "Marvel's Agents of Shield," and "Jessica Jones" are still slated to appear at NYCC.
The panel for another Marvel breakout show "Runaways" is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 6 at 7:46 p.m. at the Main Stage of Javits Convention Center. "Agents of Shield" will be on Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Theater at Madison Square Garden. On Sunday, Oct. 8 panels for Marvel Animation will start at 11 a.m. in Room 1A06 while "The Gifted" will be at the Main Stage of the Javits Convention Center at 2:45 p.m.
The 2017 New York Comic-Con takes place on Thursday, Oct. 5 to Sunday, Oct. 8. Marvel has yet to announce the release date of "The Punisher."
