New York Giants vs Detroit Lions Live Stream: Watch NFL Monday Night Football Online (ESPN TV Start Time, Preview)

The New York Giants will play the Detroit Lions on NFL Monday Night Football tonight as Week 1 of the 2014 regular season continues. Sunday saw a number of shocks as 26 teams got their seasons underway. But fans can expect more drama tonight with a Monday Night Football double-header. Tonight's game Between the Giants and Lions will start at 7.10 p.m. ET and can be watched on TV on the ESPN network or online through live stream (details below).

Both of these teams disappointed last season and have a lot to prove this term.

The Giants of course slumped to 0-6 at the start of last season, basically putting them out of Playoff contention even before the season was half way through. The Lions experienced a similar blowout, but they suffered theirs at the other end of the season, losing six of their last eight games. Ultimately the teams ended up in the same position – with a below par 7-9 record and out of the postseason.

Both teams have a shot in their divisions this season, as neither has truly stand out opposition in with them, although the Giants will have done very well if they can overcome the Philadelphia Eagles, who are most people's favorites for the NFC East.

It won't be easy for the Lions either, as they have the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears to contend with. However, neither the Eagles, Packers nor Eagles are top prospects for the Super Bowl this season, and therefore the Giants and Lions will feel they have a fair chance to overcome them in their respective division title races.

The Lions will look to Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson to lead their offense, and with such talent they really should not be struggling for performance this season. Stafford has been among the top quarterbacks in the league in recent times, and Johnson is recognized by some as the best wide receiver in the NFL.

The Giants seem to have more problems offensively; free agent addition Geoff Schwartz will be missing the season's opening seven games after suffering a dislocated toe, and Eli Manning comes into this season following last year's nightmare season where he threw a massive 27 interceptions. If he does the same this season the Giants will be nowhere near the Playoffs, however, most believe he cannot be anywhere near as bad this time around.

Meanwhile, despite still having some serious question marks hanging over this Giants team, one bright point is their running game, with Rashad Jennings looking excellent in preseason. That should offer them a new dimension going forward and should also alleviate some of the pressure on Manning's arm.
