NFL 2016 News and Updates: Microsoft Launches Official NFL Surface Pro Type Covers; Price Details and Features

Time to kick in the football season in tech-savvy style.

Preseason games, Adele being asked (or not asked, depending on whose side you've heard) to sing for the Super Bowl half-time, and enterprises lining up to capitalize on the sport frenzy - football season is finally here!

In order for everyone to properly kick off the season's spirit, Microsoft partnered with the National Football League (NFL) to launch official NFL-branded covers for the Surface Pro, pegged at around $160.

You can avail of a pretty hefty discount, though. If you buy the Surface cover alongside a Surface Pro 4, you can get the Type cover at around $130.

Now, you can proudly wear your team's color around the office in style. The partnership comes as no surprise as the Surface Pro is NFL's official tablet.

What the Type Covers are made of

According to Microsoft, these Microsoft Surface Special Edition NFL Type Covers are made from premium material and works well with the Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 4. It costs as much as the Signature Surface Type cover it launched in April, minus the Alcantara fabric and the fingerprint reader.

"Trusted by the pros, built by the fans", as they cleverly put it.

There are 32 designs--one for each NFL team, from the Atlanta Cardinals to the Washington Redskins--available for the picking, which features all the teams and their logos in full-bleed. It also uses the latest Surface Pro keyboard tech and a large glass trackpad for a more ergonomic typing and keystroke experience.

When will they be available?

These will be available in select Microsoft Stores in the United States and Canada, as well as microsoftstore.com. These will also be available on Best Buy and Amazon starting August 29.

Microsoft also has an offer for NFL fans: if you buy a Surface Pro 4 and any Surface Type cover, you can get 15% off a game pass, plus a chance to win autographed items--or even a free trip to the Super Bowl LI!

The Verge reported that Microsoft invested at least $400 million for this NFL partnership. They definitely worked to get the Surface Pro as the NFL staple device, even going as far as to develop the NFL version of the Surface sturdier than normal.

Madden NFL 17

On a related note, the Madden NFL 17, which is launching on August 23rd, will feature colored Surface tablets. Microsoft is also planning to create Xbox One S bundles to go with the latest Madden game.

Go kick off the football season in style!
