'Once Upon a Time' Season 7 Premiere Date, Cast News: Meegan Warner to Continue Role of Rapunzel; Tiana Joins the Storyline
Meegan Warner has been booked to continue playing the character of Rapunzel in the all new "Once Upon a Time." Meanwhile, Tiana — to be played by Mekia Cox — joins the characters of Storybrooke.
Warner will guest-star in "Once Upon a Time" season 7 as Rapunzel, who already appeared in the series in season 3 portrayed by Alexandra Metz, TVLine reports.
Warner's Rapunzel will be taken hostage in a tower by an evil witch, where she will do everything and anything to break the spell that's keeping her locked in. She will also seek revenge on the evil sorceress who kept her trapped in the tower.
Aside from the return of Rapunzel, "Once Upon a Time" will also introduce Tiana from "The Princess and the Frog" in season 7, Deadline confirmed.
Cox was initially tapped as a recurring cast member, but the actress has been promoted to a series regular and will be on the show from its third episode forward.
At the Television Critics Association press tour last August, the showrunners confirmed that none of the happy endings they gave to the series' original characters from seasons 1 to 6 will be taken away. Instead, executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis are bringing in new challenges to the show.
"We are not looking to get rid of any of the happy endings set up, but we are moving forward, and think we have found a way to achieve both things," Kitsis explained.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Morrison's Emma Swan will return in season 7 to close her story with Captain Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) in the episode titled "A Pirate's Life," Entertainment Weekly confirmed with an exclusive first look.
"We get to find out what has happened with Emma and Hook since our happy ending we showed last year. We will be getting closure on her story in what we feel is a satisfying way," Horowitz revealed.
"Once Upon a Time" season 7 is slated to premiere on Friday, Oct. 6, at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
