OnePlus X Release Date News: May Be Coming In October

A cheaper OnePlus Android phone may be coming sooner than we think. According to a report on the website Gizmochina as cited in CNET, the newest addition to the OnePlus family may be unveiled within this month of October. Called the OnePlus X, the new device will be the third smartphone that the Chinese smartphone company will be releasing. The report cites a source which claims that the OnePlus X will not sport high-end specifications like the OnePlus and the recently released OnePlus 2.

Under the hood, it will reportedly have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and will have a 5-inch display. The device's resolution is not yet known. The phone is definitely less powerful than the company's "flagship killer" and is also expected to sell at a much lower price, making it attractive for users who want a mid-level phone at a low price.

According to another report in TechnoBuffalo, the OnePlus X may feature a sleeker design. Previous OnePlus devices were noted for their sleek look and feel. Apart from the new look, the handset is rumored to have a fingerprint scanner as well as two rear-facing cameras, something that a few flagships have so far.

The same report also cited an inside source at OnePlus who said that the new device will more likely be unveiled in November and not October as rumored. The OnePlus X is also rumored to retail at only $250.

OnePlus is a Chinese smartphone company known for its smartphones with high-end specifications but with affordable prices. Its latest flagship called OnePlus 2, was also dubbed the "flagship killer" because it rivalled other flagships in terms of specs and performance, but sold for a much lower price.

The company's marketing strategy is also different from other smartphone manufacturers. Interested buyers will need to get invites to pre-order the devices. This can either be through other OnePlus owners or by participating in a contest or promotion.
