'Outcast' News: Series Trailer Shown At New York Comic Con

Robert Kirkman, the creator of "Walking Dead" and "Fear the Walking Dead," is doing another TV adaptation of another of his comic book series. This time, it is about the supernatural, particularly demonic possession and exorcism. According to a report in Collider, Kirkman's comic book series "Outcast" will be coming to Cinemax in 2016 as a series. The series' first trailer was recently shown at the New York Comic Con, which featured that show's main characters, Kyle Barnes (played by Patrick Fugit) and Reverend Anderson (Philip Glenister).

Although the show is said to be based on the comic book series of the same title, the report said that viewers should expect the show to reflect Kirkman's creativity in terms of adaptations of his work. Kirkman is known for doing "loose adaptations" even of his own work so the storyline may depart from what is in the comic book.

The one-minute trailer however revealed some details about the characters and the setting. Kyle is back in his small hometown after being gone for some time. He encounters Reverend Anderson and becomes involved with a case of demonic possession that the Reverend is looking into. The trailer also shows flashbacks of a young Kyle suffering abuse in the hands of his mother.

Cinemax's official synopsis of the series is as follows: "Outcast follows Kyle Barnes, a young man who has been plagued by demonic possession all his life. Now, with the help of the Reverend Anderson, a preacher with personal demons of his own, Kyle embarks on a journey to find answers and regain the normal life he lost. But what Kyle discovers could change his fate — and the fate of the world — forever."

Based on the comic book, Kyle Barnes had a special connection to demonic possession because his mother, and later on, his wife, had experienced possession while they were living with him early on in his life. This connection will become instrumental in the work against evil that he will eventually do with Reverend Anderson.
