'Outlander' Season 2 Cast News: Starz Series Casts Its Brianna

Fans of the time travel series "Outlander" can now put an end to "Breewatch." Starz has announced that it has cast British actress Sophie Skelton in the much-anticipated role of Brianna for the fantasy romance-drama's second run, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

As fans of the Starz series and of the "Outlander" novels know, Brianna is the daughter of Scotsman Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a Highland warrior from the 1700s, and Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a nurse from 1940s Britain. Skelton is set to play an adult version of Brianna, who is described in the "Outlander" books as an intelligent, strong-willed, and redheaded woman, who has taken after both her mother and her father. In the international best-selling Diana Gabaldon series of novels on which the show is based, Brianna, as an adult, has her mother's inquiring mind and her father's bullheadedness.

Fans of the American-British historical drama have been eagerly awaiting news of Brianna's casting and have taken to using the hashtag #BreeWatch when talking about the actresses who may take on the role.

Skelton has previously appeared in television shows "Waterloo Road," "Doctors," "DCI Banks," "The Dumping Ground," "Casualty," "Foyle's War," and "So Awkward." Having trained as a ballet dancer and a singer, the actress has performed in a number of stage productions, including "Les Mis," "Fiddler on the Roof," and "West Side Story."

Skelton' casting follows that of Richard Rankin, who is set to play the role of the adult Roger Wakefield, the adopted son of the Reverend Wakefield. Roger appeared in the first season of "Outlander" as a child. In the novels, the adult version of the character meets Claire and her 20-something daughter and will later play a crucial role in the lives of Jamie, Claire, and Brianna.

The second season of "Outlander" premieres in April.
