Pacquiao Vs. Bradley 3: 'Pacman' Juggling Senatorial Campaign And Training Camp For Bradley Fight?
Renowned boxing trainer Freddie Roach has shed some light on what has been happening within the camp of eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao.
"Pacman" is headed for his 66th and final fight on April 9th, in a rubber match against WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley. The fight will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the same venue where the first two fights in June 2012 and April 2014 were held.
After which, Pacquiao will be focusing on being a full-time public servant and politician in the Philippines. Currently a Congressman for the Sarangani Province of the Mindanao region, he is also aiming for a Senatorial seat through the 2016 Philippine Elections, which takes place in May.
While some laud Pacquiao's political aspirations, Roach feels it might be a deterrent to the flow of training camp. In a report by Steve Kim for Boxingscene, the seven-time Boxing Writers Association of America Trainer of the Year awardee is adamant about his plans for the Filipino boxing icon.
"We're trying to make it as short as possible but right now I know Manny's still campaigning to be the senator a little bit but I'm going to try to bring him back here as soon as possible," Roach said.
The report adds that Roach intends to spend two to three weeks of camp in the Philippines and then hold the last four weeks in Los Angeles, at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California.
It has been a practice that the Pacquiao camp has been implementing in the past few years. When in the Philippines, Team Pacquiao usually holds camp at Manny's very own Wild Card Gym in his hometown of General Santos City.
Roach also confirmed that he will be leaving for the Philippines on Friday, February 12th, and will begin camp upon his arrival on Sunday, February 14th.
