Peyton Manning Scholarship Fund Grows with Recent Donation

A little more than a week after the Super Bowl and Peyton Manning is in the news again. This time, it's not for his athletic prowess leading the Colt's to a championship, but rather for his generosity, charity, and value of education.

Peyton Manning and his wife Ashley have made a sizeable donation to the Peyton Manning Scholarship Endowment at the University of Tennessee, Manning's Alma Mater. While the couple does not wish to divulge the amount of their donation, it is quite sizeable.

The University of Tennessee's online news publication Tennessee Today reported that Manning said, "The University of Tennessee holds a special place in my heart, and Ashley and I are excited about the opportunity to award more deserving UT students with the Manning Scholarship. One of the most gratifying times for me each summer is meeting a phenomenal student who has been selected for the Manning Scholarship. Making a difference in the lives of young people is the greatest gift any of us can receive."

The Manning Scholarship usually grants room, board, and full tuition to one deserving student a year, but Manning's recent donation will allow two students to win the award in the future. Students chosen for the scholarship are incoming freshmen who have excelled in academics, leadership, and community service.

The University reports that all recipients are members of the Haslam Scholars Program, the school's special honors program. So far 15 students have been honored with the Manning Scholarship and each summer Manning has returned to UT to personally announce the winners.

University of Tennessee Chancellor Jimmy G. Cheek, respond with praise and excitement over Manning's contribution. Cheek told Tennessee Today, "Peyton truly exemplifies the volunteer spirit. He has always been a great supporter of the university with his time and his personal involvement with the students who have benefited from the Peyton Manning Scholarship as well as his investments in our university and our students."
