Pitbull Lends Private Plane to Help Cancer Patients in Puerto Rico Travel to the US After Hurricane Maria Onslaught
In the spirit of love and camaraderie, Pitbull decided to help the citizens of Puerto Rico in his own creative way.
It's no secret that Puerto Rico is still reeling from the devastation brought upon by Hurricane Maria, and they need all the help they can get. Pitbull, whose real name is Armando Christian Perez, has found a rather creative way to help those who were greatly affected by the hurricane — by lending his private plane.
Puerto Rico congresswoman Jennifer Gonzalez made sure to thank the 36-year-old rapper for his good deed. "Thanks to singer @pitbull for lending private plane to transfer cancer patients from Puerto Rico to the United States so that they can take their chemo," the congresswoman said in Spanish via Twitter.
It also seems that "Mr. Worldwide" himself had no intention of broadcasting his selfless act, but thankfully, Cong. Gonzalez made sure he got the recognition he deserved.
"Thank God we're blessed to help. Just doing my part," Pitbull said in a statement.
Puerto Rico has never experienced a hurricane as strong as Maria in over a century. However, the worst part of it all is that after the destruction caused by the storm, it has been reported that island's 3.5 million residents may face a few months without electricity. Hurricane Maria caused immense flooding and stripped the roofs off of buildings displacing a wide number of families.
But Pitbull isn't the only one who extended his hand to help. Other celebrities also took it upon themselves to help those who were affected by the hurricane. In fact, pop diva Jennifer Lopez announced last week she would be donating $1 million. Not only that, she urged others to support and donate to the hurricane relief efforts. "I urge you to support and donate to the efforts(UnitedforPuertoRico.com) of the first lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Rosselló. Together we can help rebuild our island and the Caribbean," Lopez said in an Instagram post.
Ricky Martin and Jennifer Lopez' ex-husband, Marc Antony, also joined in on the cause. Rapper Daddy Yankee also pledged $1 million to the relief efforts in order to help the residents of the island stand back on their feet.
