PlayStation 4 Predicted to Outsell Xbox One by 10 Million Units
The PlayStation 4 is projected to sell over 10 million more units than the Xbox One over the console's first five years.
Analyst firm IHS predicts that the PS4 will sell 49 million consoles compared to Xbox's 38 million through 2017.
"The installed base of Xbox 360 users is significantly bigger than the original Xbox generation and this factor alone means IHS expects significantly stronger launch sales for Xbox One compared to the last generation. In 2005, Xbox 360 launched at the end of the year with sales of 1.2 million," the firm said to VG247.

IHS also feels that most people will remain loyal to the brand they are already accustomed to, and that most of Sony's 10 million plus in difference between consoles will be through new neutral video gamers. Also, Sony does significantly better overseas than Microsoft. In fact a recent poll in Japan alone showed the astounding numbers. In the last 10 years, Sony has sold over 20 million products in Japan compared to an almost non existent 1.5 million by Microsoft.
"Sony's PS4 positioning since its announcement has been heavily centred on the gamer, while Microsoft has attempted to implement a mixed and broader entertainment and gaming message," the IHS release said. "This different approach will influence the choice of some early adopters. The strength of exclusives will also be key to consumer adoption; at this time IHS believes that Xbox One's exclusives are more formidable for a wider set of gamers, especially in the opening launch period."
However, they feel that initially the two consoles will be close in numbers, stating that the PS4 will sell 2.4 million units and the Xbox One will sell around 2.2 million by the end of 2013.
PlayStation 4 will be released on November 15 and the Xbox One will arrive a week later on Nov. 22.
