'Preacher' Season 3 Renewed or Canceled Latest News: AMC Drama to Return in 2018
It's official: "Preacher" has been renewed for a third season at AMC.
The network has ordered new episodes from "Preacher," according to reports. Executive producer Seth Rogen announced the show's renewal on Twitter Friday, Oct. 27. Further details about the upcoming storyline, as well as casting additions, are still being kept under wraps.
Adapted from the comic book series by Steve Dillon and Garth Ennis, "Preacher" stars Dominic Cooper as the preacher Jesse Custer. He is inhabited by Genesis, a mysterious entity that gives him the power to make everyone do whatever he commands. Academy Award nominee Ruth Negga plays Jesse's fierce girlfriend Tulip, alongside Joseph Gilgun as Jesse's vampire best friend Cassidy.
Season 2 left off with Jesse and Cassidy in a miserable place. Following the destruction of Jesse's hometown, the trio was sent to New Orleans in pursuit of God. Tulip died toward the end of the season, forcing Jesse and Cassidy to head for Angelville in hopes of resurrecting her. Their journey will reunite Jesse with his grandmother, who happens to be one of the most wicked people he has ever met.
News of a renewal for the AMC drama has been around since the summer. The New Orleans Times-Picayune previously reported that paperwork had already been filed for another batch of new episodes. If "Preacher" follows its usual schedule, principal photography will kick off in January 2018. It is also believed that the program will have another summer premiere.
The show will reportedly have a $70 million budget this season, an increase from the $67 million budget for season 2's 13 episodes. It seems the network is now preparing for approximately the same number of episodes for the next installment.
The third season of "Preacher" is expected to premiere 2018 on AMC. A definitive release date has yet to be announced by the network.
