PS4 and PS Vita Bundle: 'Ultimate Bundle' Coming This Christmas, Confirms Sony Executive

Sony is releasing a PS4 and PS Vita "Ultimate Bundle," and details surfaced online Friday as the holiday season is inching closer.

"We're really excited for Vita as we move into Christmas," Sony senior product manager of Sony Ben Law said to MCV. "We've got a great campaign with key messaging around new releases like Tearaway, the ever-growing game catalogue and the Remote Play service."

He also revealed to MCV that Sony was going to run a series of commercials called, "The Best Way to Play," for £2.5m. The commercial will focus on how the PS Vita integrates with the PlayStation 4 using its Tearaway technology.

The Vita will be able to be used as a second screen for certain PS4 games using a smartphone application and Remote Play mode, which lets the gamer continue playing what was on the screen on the handheld using wi-fi. According to Polygon, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Resogun, and Diablo 3 use this feature.

Initially there was some confusion about the Vita as a controller option for the PS4, and Sony executive Shuhei Yoshida has clarified the information on Twitter a few months ago.

"HEY BRO!... Could you tell us if the PS Vita 'The Ultimate companion' Can be used as a second controller on the PS4?" a Twitter user asked, to which he responded, "Hey BRO! In a normal sense, no. Unless a game is specifically programmed to allow such use of PS Vita."

Sony just launched the PS Vita TV last week in Japan as an answer to those who want to play the handheld on a larger television screen.

"We knew from before its release in 2011 that PS Vita was a platform capable of all kinds of things," the Vita's software system designer Toru Yamamoto told Famitsu magazine. "So I proposed the idea that, instead of restricting the PS Vita system software to a single portable console, we could spread it out in other forms as well. That's where the idea of making a PS Vita you connected to a TV came from."

Yamamoto stated that the toughest part of putting the Vita on TV was configuring how to implement the touch screen features accurately and fluidly.

"The PS Vita's system software is pretty quick and responsive, and it's been tuned further for the Vita TV, giving you a sense of speed and lightness that should be surprising for a home console," he continued in the interview.

The PS Vita TV used the DualShock 3 controller and is compatible with most but not all Vita games, Polygon reports. It is retailing for 9480 Yen, or $95.50 US. It will also be able to download classic PSP and PSOne titles.

There has been no announcement on whether the console will arrive in the U.S.
