PS4 Sold Out on Amazon Despite Launch Day Problems

Sony sold more than 1 million PS4 units on its launch day in the U.S. and Canada alone, and has sold out completely on Amazon despite numerous bad consoles.

"PS4 has sold through over 1 million units with the 24 hours of the launch in North America!!! :D," Sony President of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida announced on Twitter.

Amazon made an announcement to let customers looking to purchase the Playstation 4 know they were wiped out.

"Due to extremely high demand, Amazon.com is currently sold out of the Playstation 4 inventory. However, there may be offers available from Marketplace Sellers. Please check back on the Amazon Video Games Facebook page for the next update on when Amazon.com will have more Playstation 4s," Amazon posted.

The PS4 has not been without its launch day hitches. Thousands of gamers have received dead consoles or malfunctioning HDMI cords, and what has been called the Blue Pulsing Light of Death.

"We are aware that some people have reported issues with their PlayStation 4 systems. We are closely monitoring for additional reports, but we think these are isolated incidents and represent a very small percentage of total units shipped to consumers to date." Sony responded with a posting.

Extremetech reports that the console has "annoying bouts of lagginess," especially in the PSN sign-up process they report. Scrolling through the selection boxes, typing on screen, and at times the D-pad, are slow. This could be in part because the console runs off of the Internet, so if the gamer's provider is not very strong, that will affect the gameplay.

IGN initially reported that some gamers were having a tough time getting the console to play through the cable. A gamer uploaded a video of his connection problems on YouTube, and said he had only been playing for an hour.

Another problem with day one is connecting to the PlayStation Network. PSU reports that this occurred because of the amount of traffic the site was getting for people to download the 1.50 patch.

PSU reports that most people see error codes NW-31453-6 and NP-3500-8, which is then followed by the words "The network connection has been lost."

The console launched with Killzone Shadow Fall "The Shadow Pack," Call of Duty: Ghosts "Free Fall Map," Call of Duty: Ghosts Digital Hardened Edition "Free Fall Map," Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag "Exclusive Aveline Figurehead," Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag Gold Edition "Exclusive Aveline Figurehead," and Battlefield 4 "China Rising Expansion."
