Razer Introduces Its First Gaming Smartphone
Razer has officially joined the smartphone business.
The company recently introduced its cutting-edge gaming smartphone, according to reports. Based on the technical details, the Razer Phone packs high-end specs into an Android device that is specially designed for mobile gaming. Since it is a first for Razer, the computer hardware manufacturer appeared to go all out for its launch.
Powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor, the Razer Phone boasts a whopping 8 GB of random-access memory (RAM) and 4,000-mAh battery. It has a 5.72-inch, Quad high-definition (HD) IGZO LCD with 120-Hz capabilities, giving users an impressive visual display while playing games. The display automatically ramps up its framerate during gameplay and cranks it all down when the user is just browsing the internet or watching videos.
"You use this for a week and then go to any other phone, you're going to be upset," said Razer's head of mobile Tom Moss about the new device.
In terms of its overall look, Razer's first phone does not look like most new flagship phones that have curved screens and shiny rounded edges. The device appears similar to a black brick with its 90-degree corners. It also has a flat surface and giant bezels on both sides of the screen. Those bezels house two front-facing speakers that go louder than what users may expect.
As expected, the Razer Phone is not for everyone. The smartphone is not waterproof, has no 3.5-mm headphone jack and it does not support wireless charging. Razer explained that the big pair of speakers were not compatible with the concept of waterproofing and the wireless charging signal cannot pass through the phone's all-aluminum body.
It is also worth noting that it will not support CDMA carriers (i.e., Sprint or Verizon). This spells bad news for prospective U.S. buyers, since like the OnePlus 5, the Razer Phone only uses GSM.
