'Rise of the Tomb Raider' Review: Braver Young Lara Croft Meets Fans' Expectations
"Rise of the Tomb Raider" has gained rave reviews from fans who appreciated the game's wider in-game world and Lara Croft's braver and more confident demeanor.
While the latest "Tomb Raider" game is yet to be released this Tuesday, critics have already released their reviews for the sequel "Rise of the Tomb Raider." Fans found the game satisfactory and most reviews like the bolder and more confident young Lara Croft, according to the International Business Times.
In "Rise of the Tomb Raider," Lara Croft is no longer the vulnerable heroine from that in the previous game, but has now grown into a more capable explorer who aims to find a lost artifact that her late father was working on. Metacritic gave the game a score of 87, plus 52 positive reviews and no negative word from critics.
The growth of Lara Croft's character is a key factor for the success of the "Rise of the Tomb Raider." The game achieves a balance between the heroine's maturity and the fans' familiarity with the younger character, Kotaku reports.
In "Rise of the Tomb Raider," Lara Croft will look for evidence of a time-lost civilization in a bid to restore her deceased father's honor. She will try to look for the Divine Source of eternal life and the apocryphal Prophet who used the artifact to perform miracles. The young heroine will explore the snowy mountains of Siberia in the hopes of beating the Trinity goons to the Divine Source, the report details.
For Polygon, however, the mystery factor in "Rise of the Tomb Raider" is a bit lacking compared with "Tomb Raider." The latter's island of Yamatai is still superior to the ancient city of Kitezh in the newer game. Fortunately, Konstantin proves to be a villain that is able to salvage the story line.
As for gamers, they found everything they expected from "Tomb Raider" in "Rise of the Tomb Raider." This includes more puzzles, Trinity goons, sidequests, and areas for exploration. They were also delighted by the new ammunition and weapon crafting system of the game, Kotaku adds.
"Rise of the Tomb Raider" is currently exclusive for Xbox One and Xbox 360. However, PC owners who want to play the game will get their chance in spring of 2016.
