Robin Thicke's Mom and Wife Split on Miley Cyrus' Lewd 2013 VMA Performance

The entertainment world is still talking about the VMA performance put on by Miley Cyrus on Sunday night and one thing is for sure – nobody can seem to agree on if it was good, bad or just a ploy for publicity.

The young singer's father, Billy Ray, tweeted a message of support for the 20-year-old after her performance that featured her dancing provocatively.

"Thanking God for so many blessings tonight. Continue to pray for world peace. More love ...less hate," Billy Ray posted on his Twitter account soon after the awards show ended.

However, Cyrus' MTV VMA performance shocked spectators so much that a number of people felt compelled to pray for the singer. During the performance, she stripped down to a nude-colored bikini while gyrating on married R&B singer Robin Thicke, 36.

Thicke's mother, actress Gloria Loring, had a different reaction, one that was based in confusion and not amusement.

"I don't understand what Miley Cyrus is trying to do," the former Days of Our Lives actress told Yahoo OMG!. "I think she's misbegotten in this attempt of hers. And I think it was not beneficial."

Thicke's mother admitted that she had no idea what Cyrus and her son were trying to accomplish when the young singer touched the R&B star inappropriately during a remixed rendition of his song "Blurred Lines."

"I didn't get what her point was," Loring said. "It was so over the top as to almost be a parody of itself."

The incident even led to speculation regarding Thicke's wife Paula Patton and her reaction to the shows segment.

Sources originally stated that Patton was "irate" following her husband's VMA performance on Sunday night. During the performance, Cyrus debuted a series of dance moves, some of which included the "We Can't Stop" singer dancing extremely close to Thicke.

Pictures of the former Disney star and Thicke were rampant on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites. But a second source has confirmed that Thicke's wife, Paula, isn't really mad about the show.

There were "tons of rehearsals" before the actual show took place,o Patton wasn't surprised at all on Sunday when she watched her husband perform, according to TMZ. But while Patton may not have been surprised by Cyrus' new dance moves, it appears that many other celebrities in the crowd were.
