Ronan Farrow Aims to Expose 'Machine' That Protected Harvey Weinstein
Ronan Farrow has been instrumental in the exposing of Harvey Weinstein and now, according to the reporter, more is yet to be revealed regarding the issue.
With his article piece on The New Yorker, Ronan Farrow had become the instrument that had exposed the disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein. With the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse scandal coming to light, the reporter has said that more is to be said about the matter.
Additionally, in a guest appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," Farrow had insisted that he would next be targeting the "machine" that had been instrumental in keeping the Harvey Weinstein scandal hidden.
"People have asked, 'How could this many allegations have stayed undercover this long?'" Farrow said about the Harvey Weinstein scandal. "I think there's much more to be said about just how far that went," he added.
Sexual abuse and harassment may be quite the touchy subject for Ronan, who is the son of actress Mia Farrow and filmmaker Woody Allen. It has been alleged that Ronan's sister, Dylan O'Sullivan Farrow, was sexually abused by Allen when she was a child. This allegation has remained unproven to this day and Farrow has since been estranged from his father who went on to marry his step-daughter (Ronan's step-sister and Mia Farrow's adopted daughter), Sunyi Previn.
Colbert asked the young journalist as to whether this so-called machine is composed of the people who had allowed such abuses to happen and kept it a secret. Farrow answered that it's not just in Hollywood but that it also extends to the people wielding power and money in every industry.
"The thing that was striking to me, too, was there was this particularly ugly and powerful machine aimed at securing silence, but also there's a whole range of reasons why sexual assault survivors don't come forward in every walk of life — whether it's a woman in a blue-collar job or a woman in Hollywood," Farrow says. He would explain that this is the reason as to why it is difficult for sex abuse victims to come forward with their horrible experiences.
Following Farrow's exposé on The New Yorker, many women have since come out to reveal their own experiences with Weinstein.
