Ronda Rousey's Coach Talks About Retirement for MMA Fighter
Ronda Rousey's coach, Edmond Tarverdyan, has hinted that the American mixed martial arts fighter might be ready to retire.
Tarverdyan appeared in a recent episode of "The MMA Hour," where he revealed that Rousey might decide to throw in the towel for good.
"An end comes to everything, you know? It was a decision we made and she made," the Daily Star confirmed.
The Olympian's coach then elaborated how much Rousey has achieved in the sport of mixed martial arts, and that maybe her body has taken too much beating to continue on in her career.
"Ronda has fought for a long time. She's been an Olympian, a two-time Olympian. She placed a medal in the last Olympic games, the last one she competed in," said Tarverdyan.
Rousey's coach added, "Ronda has had a lot of body injuries. Before the last fight, we did surgery again on her knee. This girl has had so many injuries."
When Tarverdyan was asked if he thinks Rousey would be willing to fight again, he said that the decision will depend upon the MMA fighter. He also shared that he encouraged Rousey to make one more fight, but he's not sure whether the MMA fighter will be up for it.
"Maybe she can if the body can give her one more fight and if she really wants to mentally," said Tarverdyan.
Meanwhile, there's a possibility that a match between Rousey and WWE's Charlotte Flair — Ric Flair's daughter — will happen.
Flair told TMZ Sports at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) that if ever Rousey wants a fight, she'll know where to find her. The WWE wrestler also teased that she can beat up Rousey in the match if it pushes through.
However, Flair did share that she has big respect for Rousey for paving the way for female fighters in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and the World Wrestling Entertainment.
