'Rookie Blue' Season 5 Spoilers: Has Andy Met Her Match? (TRAILER VIDEO)

"Rookie Blue" fans have generally always supported Andy in her decisions in the police department, but that support will be more important now that a new character has emerged as a foil to the good work she does. Duncan, the police commissioner's stepson, will prove to be a challenge that could leave Andy questioning whether she will actually remain on the force by the end of the season.

"Duncan is a real professional antagonist for Andy McNally this first half of the season," executive producer Tassie Cameron told TVLine. "He's a well-connected young man. So it's going to really prove challenging for Andy. We're finally allowing ourselves to take a look at some politics of the force – old guard versus new guard. Obviously, our main characters are the new guard of policing. We're interested in the friction between the very, very old school institution and the young, fresh faces with idealism and a new way of doing things and how those two types of policing can come in conflict with each other."

It's a problem that many real-life police officers can relate to, so it will be interesting to see it play out in scripted form on the hit series now in its fifth season.

Andy and her fellow officers are all five-year veterans, but Duncan and his stepfather believe in doing things the old, traditional, way. And given that Andy recently had to make a huge decision regarding her personal life, how will that affect her attitude at work and her ability to deal with conflict? It's something that viewers will have to tune in to see play out this season.

"Rookie Blue" is actually a Canadian drama that quickly caught on here in the U.S. Unfortunately, due to scheduling, the U.S. always watches the series later than when it originally airs in Canada and abroad. This season will feature 22 episodes – half will air this summer and half at a later date.
