'RuPaul's Drag Race' Season 8 News: The Series Won't Have Carmen Carrera's 'Support' for Now
Many viewers got excited upon hearing the news that "RuPaul's Drag Race" was renewed for its eighth season, according to By The Numbers. However, fans were saddened to hear the news that one of the series' former contestants, Carmen Carrera, can't give her "support" to the show for now.
During Carrera's interview with Wetpaint, the former contestant said that she thought it was not cool that the show have to come up with the "Shemale Female" mini-challenge. According to Enstarz, the game happened during "RuPaul's Drag Race" season 6, where the queens, or the contestants, had to "look at women's' body parts and decide if it was a woman or a man dressing as a woman."
The episode has sparked controversy, up until now, and the reality star-turned-model has spoken her thoughts about the use of those words in the show. "It wasn't about the 'shemale,' it was never a 'shemale' issue as far as like 'you've got shemale.' It was more about the shamale female game, which I felt at that point in time, it was just not cool to show that and teach that because the show does have a huge heterosexual cisgender following," Carrera said.
The website added that Carrera and the Logo TV reality series are not "in the best light," but Carrera claims it will not be this way forever. "As far as the show, I can't really support it right now. But you know, things change. We'll see," she said.
Meanwhile, many are petitioning for Carrera to become the first Victoria Secret's transgender Angel. According to the Daily Mail UK, nearly 50,000 have now responded to the petition at Change.org to support Carrera. The petition was made in 2013, and with close to 50,000 signatures, Carrera's fans hope that she can now grace the Victoria Secret runway soon.
"RuPaul's Drag Race" season 8 will come back spring of next year on Logo TV.
