Sage Fire in Stevenson Ranch Area [MAPS]: Santa Clarita Valley Blaze Reaches 1,109 Acres, 49 Percent Containment; Evacuations Lifted

The Los Angeles County Fire Department officials announced that as of 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, 2016 the sage fire in Stevenson Ranch Area of the Santa Clarita Valley, California had spread to 1,109 acres, with 49 percent containment. Evacuated residents were also allowed to go home on Saturday evening after authorities made improvements in controlling the sage fire.

The Christian Post reported earlier regarding the sage fire which started at around Saturday noon near Calgrove Boulevard and the Old Road in the Stevenson Ranch Area of the Santa Clarita Valley. Although authorities are still investigating the exact cause, reports claimed that a car accident ignited the fire.

The fire then immediately spread, threating around 700 homes and as a result, more than 2,000 residents were forcibly evacuated to West Ranch High School.

About 700 uniformed personnel worked together to control the fire that had scorched 1,109 acres in less than 24 hours. After the overnight effort to put off the fire, the Los Angeles County Fire Department tweeted 15 percent to 20 percent containment on Saturday night.

Mandatory Evacuation was Lifted After The Sage Fire was Contained

The mandatory evacuation of more than 2,000 residents was lifted at around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday after authorities declared that the sage fire in Stevenson Ranch Area of the Santa Clarita Valley was already under control. Despite giving the permission to go home, authorities encouraged residents to continue being vigilant and be alerted with news and updates.

Residents were also warned by authorities that they continued witnessing heavy smoke as the sage fire continued to blaze. Residents with heart disease, asthma or other respiratory ailments were also advised to minimize their outdoor activities.

According to a media advisory by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, road closures continue at Pico Canyon, Sagecrest and the Old Road South. Moreover, as of press time, only residents were given access to these areas.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department also reported that there is one home that was partly damaged by the sage fire in Stevenson Ranch Area of the Santa Clarita Valley. There were also two firefighters who sustained minor injuries during their efforts to extinguish the fire.
