Samsung ATIV Book 9 2015 Edition: New Ultrabook to Be Released in First Quarter of 2015

Samsung is gearing up to releases a new Ultrabook which is said to rival the Retina Macbook Air by the first quarter of this year. Loaded with security features yet unbelievable light and thin, expect that the new Samsung ATIV Book 9 won't come cheap.

The new Ultrabook has some of the design elements of its predecessors, but it will be thinner thanks to its fanless design. The device will be available in a cobalt blue aluminum shell and is "blade thin" at 0.46 inches and it weighs only 2.06 pounds. This is made possible due to its Core M 5Y10c chip, which doesn't consume so much power, therefore allowing it to be used in fanless devices.

The ATIV Book 9 has an Intel Core M processor and features a 12.2-inch LED screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600. The system has several unique features, and among them is a display mode that lets the user boost its brightness from 350 to 700 nits, which makes it readable even in direct sunlight. At normal brightness, Samsung gives the ATIV Book 9 a battery life of 10.5 hours.

Samsung also included a power saving mode in the device, wherein one can shut down Bluetooth among others with a click of a button. The Ultrabook also has a privacy filter which will dissuade onlookers from gawking at your screen. With a press of the Fn10 button, the screen blurs, and one can even select which windows are blurred. There's also a built in on/off button for the webcam and mic, which switches them off at a hardware level, thus making it impossible for hackers to watch you or listen to you.

The 12-inch ATIV Book 9 will be available with 4GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage for $1,199, and another version with 8GB of RAM and 256GB internal storage will cost $1,399.
