Samsung Exynos 9810 Chipset Release Date, Specs Rumors: Exynos 9 Series Processor Coming Soon, to Power Galaxy S8?
Just days after Samsung teased that the Exynos 9 series system on chip (SoC) would be coming soon, details regarding the South Korean tech giant's flagship chipset have been leaked online.
According to the LinkedIn profile of an intern at Samsung's R&D Institute in Bangalore (via SamMobile), the next Exynos processor could be named Exynos 9810.
A source from the South Korean media (via WCCFTech) also suggested that the Exynos 9810 will be built using the 10-nm FinFET manufacturing process. The processor will have eight cores, four of which will be Samsung's Mongoose M2 cores and four will be ARM's Cortex-A53 cores.
This chipset will reportedly provide improvements in performance and power consumption. It was also noted that this particular architecture may be somewhat conservative, which is understandable as Samsung wants to prevent overheating issues. The tech giant cannot afford to make another mistake following the disastrous complications that resulted due to the Galaxy Note 7's exploding batteries.
Industry insiders speculate that there may be two variants of the Exynos 9810 processor. The first, named Exynos 9810V, will be partnered with an 18-core Mali G71 graphics processing unit (GPU) with a clock speed of 550 MHz. The second, named Exynos 9810M, will have a 20-core Mali G71 GPU.
However, it should be noted that Samsung has not released official details regarding the upcoming Exynos 9 series processor so information provided by these leaks should be taken with a grain of salt.
It also remains to be seen how the Exynos 9 series chipset will fare compared to other upcoming flagship processors, namely MediaTek's Helio X30, Apple's A10 Fusion and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835.
Given that Samsung's next-generation flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus, are likely to use both the Snapdragon 835 and the Exynos 9810, there is expectation that both these processors will more or less deliver the same level of performance.
In terms of a specific release date, Samsung teased that the next Exynos is "coming soon," so it could be launched in the next couple of months.
