Samsung Galaxy S5 vs. Google Nexus 5: Comparison of Features, Specs, Price

Samsung has been making giant leaps when it comes to developing innovative devices to suit the ever-fickle tech market, and its flagship phone, the Galaxy S5, has been equipped with new features that set it apart from its predecessors and competitors. However, Google has thrown its hat into the smartphone arena as it unveiled its latest—and touted to be the best—smartphone it has: the Nexus 5.

Here, we pit Samsung's flagship phone against Google's latest handset.

Design:
The Nexus 5 has a sleek and minimalistic design. It has curved edges and a curved back, and it measures 5.43 x 2.72 x 0.34 inches and weighs 4.59 ounces. Originally available in black, white, and red, but last year, it was reported that the phone will soon be available in orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.

The Galaxy S5 retains much of its predecessor's design elements—a curved at the edges rectangular shape, and silver trimming. But the S5 now sports a matte, dimpled back and it measures 5.59 x 2.85 x 0.32 inches and weighs 5.1 ounces. It's available in black, white, copper, and bright blue.

Features:
The Nexus 5 has a 4.95-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and pixel density of 445 pixels per inch. The screen gives off accurate colors, but probably not as vivid as other premium handsets.

The Galaxy S5 has a 5.1-inch AMOLED screen, and images are crisp, vivid, highly detailed and with high contrast.

Both phones come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor, but the S5 has the updated Snapdragon 801 chip, while the Nexus 5 has the Snapdragon 800.

Internal storage for the S5 and Nexus 5 starts at 16GB, but the Galaxy phone has the advantage as its memory can be expanded up to 128GB, while the Nexus 5 does not have the option to expand its storage.

The Samsung phone has an improved main 16MP camera, and images are colorful and clear. The Nexus 5 has an 8MP main camera.

Price:
The Samsung Galaxy S5 costs $750 without contract, while the Nexus 5 costs $500.
