Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 vs. Apple iPad Air Comparison: Review of Specs and Features

Apple and Samsung have always been considered as rivals even though Apple has more than one enemy in the tech market with constant competition to its mobile and tablet offerings. For tablet offerings, we're going to take a look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and the Apple iPad Air.

While Samsung has a number of tablet offerings like the Galaxy Tab or the Galaxy Tab PRO, the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is considered to be a serious competitor for the iPad Air. The iPad Air on the other hand is Apple's fifth iPad but the first in the iPad Air line.

The Galaxy Tab S has two size variants, the 8.5-inch and the 10.5-inch. For comparisons, the 10.5-inch variant will be used. As the product's name suggests, the Galaxy Tab S has a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with a screen resolution of 2560 x 1600. The iPad Air on the other hand has a 9.7-inch IPS LCD touchscreen with a screen resolution of 2048 x 1536.

In terms of specs, the Galaxy Tab S has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset with a quad-core 2.3GHz Krait 400 processor and an Adreno 330 GPU. It comes in a 16GB and 32GB internal memory variants and comes with a 3GB RAM.

The iPad Air on the other hand has a 32-bit A7 chipset and is run with a dual-core 1.3GHz Cyclone CPU which is ARM v8-based and has a PowerVR G6430 GPU. It has four internal storage offerings – 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB – and has 1GB RAM.

The Galaxy Tab S runs on Android 4.4.x Kitkat and is upgradeable to Android L soon if it is planned. The iPad Air on the other hand initially runs on iOS 7 but can now be upgraded to the newly released iOS 8.
