Samsung Galaxy X Specs, Release Date: Foldable Handset's Design Shown in New Patent
The design of the Samsung Galaxy X, the foldable handset by the South Korean tech giant, may have been revealed.
Images from a recent patent filing dug up by the Netherlands-based tech portal Lets GO Digital show that the device will feature a clamshell design with a hinge that will allow it to fold inward.
This hinge is very much like the one on the Microsoft Surface Book. Looking at the images, the Samsung Galaxy X can be folded into two, but it will not be totally flat when in that mode.

This is in line with recent reports suggesting Samsung showed off the Galaxy X and another foldable handset during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) behind closed doors.
During that secret demo presentation, the Samsung Galaxy X is revealed to come with a 7.3-inch organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display with an aspect ratio of 21:9.
There are reports that it might come with a stylus, which is not all too impossible since it is being said the foldable device is being planned to be launched as part of the Galaxy Note series.
The Samsung Galaxy X was supposed to be unveiled later this year. However, Samsung mobile division head DJ Koh announced during CES that this is no longer the case.
The delay is allegedly the result of a supplier of the display parts being unable to put together a manufacturing facility until this month, which is way beyond the initial release.
Because of all that, the clamshell device is not scheduled to be mass produced by November and should be available to users early next year instead.
Apart from the Samsung Galaxy X, the tech giant is also working on another foldable handset that was also shown in secret during CES. This one, however, is still marred with durability issues and will be released at a much later date.
