Samsung Gear S2 News: Samsung Unveils Luxury Smartwatches And Promises iOS Compatibility Soon

At the Samsung press event at the CES 2016 in Las Vegas, the Korean device manufacturer unveiled what could pose a challenge to the Apple Watch's domination over the smartwatch market. According to a report in Ars Technica, Samsung announced two new luxury models of the wearable, the Gear S2. In addition to the new models, Samsung also announced that these new devices will also be compatible with iOS devices soon.

The two new luxury models of the Gear S2 include one that has a rose gold 18K casing and another that is encased in platinum. Both wearables are targeting the same set of consumers who want to have not just a functional smartwatch, but one that looks good too. According to the report, the new models look more elegant than the all-black Gear S2 Classic which was released last year, but in terms of the price, they will not be much more expensive.

All Gear S2 collection, according to Samsung, will be able to support Samsung Pay with NFC soon. Its date of release, however, was not yet announced. The new luxury line is also complemented with new straps and bracelets and new watchfaces that are said to be designed by artists like Keith Haring, Jean-Michael Basquiat and Jeremyville. According to a Tech Times report, one of the watchfaces is a Peanuts one, featuring a big Snoopy.
