"The choice of Samsung makes some sense, since we have learned that Samsung is currently the only supplier of iPad Retina displays, after other manufacturers failed to meet Apple's quality standards," wrote 9to5Mac.

But this report does not provide enough proof to actually confirm the existence of a mini iPad. The latest rumors about it have stated that it will have a diminished bezel and will resemble a phone more than a tablet. It is also expected to be somewhere around 7-inches.

The reasoning for Apple to release a smaller iPad would solely be to compete with the low-end tablet market that is currently dominated by the Amazon Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble Nook.

The device would have to take a significant hit in terms of specs in order to compete in the price range of those two devices that cost less than $300.

The Amazon Kindle Fire retails at just $200, so Apple would have to seriously downgrade their product to get it that cheap. With the release of the new iPad, the iPad 2 has been discounted by $100 making it more appealing to an audience not willing to pay big bucks. However it is still quite expensive as it is at least double the price of the Kindle Fire.

The new iPad will be available from Friday. The next device expected to be released by Apple is the sixth-generation iPhone.
