'Santa Clarita Diet' Season 2 Announced for 2018
Netflix recently announced that it has renewed the dark comedy "Santa Clarita Diet" for a second season.
The online streaming service company revealed that the dark comedy series starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant will begin production of its upcoming season this summer and will premiere sometime in 2018.
The renewal of the series comes only less than two months after the series released its 10-episode first season in February. Deadline reports that the show's writers are already working on the stories as well as the scripts for season 2.
In "Santa Clarita Diet", Joel (Olyphant) and Sheila (Barrymore) are husband-and-wife realtors who live peaceful yet discontented lives in the Los Angeles suburb of Santa Clarita with their teenage daughter, Abby (Liv Hewson). All of that changes when Sheila undergoes a dramatic biological change which throws their mundane lives down a path of death and destruction, which may just be the thing they need to spice up their life in a good yet also dark way.
Aside from getting support from their daughter Abby, Joel and Sheila also find an ally in their teenage neighbor next door, Eric, who is portrayed by actor Skyler Gisondo.
The first season of "Santa Clarita Diet" also featured several guest stars including Nathan Fillion.
The series was created by Victor Fresco, who also serves as showrunner. Its executive producers include Barrymore through Flower Films, Olyphant, Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment, Tracy Katsky of Kapital-based KatCo, and Flower Films' Chris Miller and Ember Truesdell. Nancy Juvonen of Flower Films is also a part of the project as a producer.
Aside from "Santa Clarita Diet," Netflix also recently announced the season 2 renewal of "A Series of Unfortunate Events," which currently stars Neil Patrick Harris.
